The Hessian Sandbags are available ready to fill in 840 x 355mm and can be sold in multiples of 50, supplied ready to fill. These sandbags can be used in various applications from natural disasters to farmland use. Sandbags are commonly used during floods to divert water flow, reinforce levees, and create barriers to prevent water from entering buildings or areas of concern. They are also commonly used as an erosion control measure as they are effective in stabilising soil and preventing erosion in construction sites, riverbanks, shorelines, and other areas prone to erosion.

How to Fill Sandbags
Filling sandbags properly is essential to ensure their effectiveness and durability. Here are the steps to fill sandbags correctly:
  1. Gather the necessary materials: You will need sandbags, sand, a shovel or scoop, and gloves for protection.
  2. Choose the right sand: Use clean, dry sand without any debris or large rocks. Fine to medium sand works best for filling sandbags.
  3. Set up a filling station: Place the sandbags near the sand source and create a designated filling area that is easily accessible.
  4. Prepare the sandbags: Ensure the sandbags are untied and open. Fold the top of the sandbag down to create a wide opening for filling.
  5. Position the sandbag: Hold the sandbag with one hand on each side, gripping near the top corners.
  6. Fill the sandbag: With the shovel or scoop, carefully transfer sand into the bag. Start by filling the corners to create a stable base, and then fill the centre. Avoid overfilling the bag to maintain its flexibility and effectiveness.
  7. Compact and shape the sand: As you fill the sandbag, periodically tamp down the sand to remove air pockets and ensure a snug fit. Shape the sandbag to be rectangular and uniformly filled.
  8. Close the sandbag: Once the sandbag is filled, fold the top of the bag and tie it securely using the attached strings or by using zip ties.
  9. Stack or place the sandbags: Position the filled sandbags in the desired location, whether for flood control, erosion prevention, or other purposes. Place them tightly together, staggering the layers like brickwork to create a stable barrier.
  10. Maintain and monitor: Regularly check the sandbags for signs of wear, settling, or damage. Replace or reinforce any compromised sandbags promptly.
